Dr. Vinit Singh to share insights on “The Adoption of Wireless Power – from Tesla the Man to Tesla the Machine”

NuCurrent, the world leader of thin, high quality (Q) factor, printed wireless power transfer solutions, announces CTO Dr. Vinit Singh will be the keynote speaker at the IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC) 2017 to be held May 10-12 in Taipei, Taiwan. Dr. Singh will present the keynote “The Adoption of Wireless Power – from Tesla the Man to Tesla the Machine” on May 12 at 8:30 a.m., followed by a technical session presentation “On the Use of Eddy Currents to Facilitate Wireless Power Transfer Through Metallic Surfaces” on May 12 at 11:30 a.m. With nearly six years of history (in various forms), WPTC has become the premier international forum for the latest developments in wireless power transfer and energy harvesting.

Wireless power is already a $2 billion market and is expected to reach $10 billion by 2018 as electronic device OEMs and integrators continue to look to build in efficient wireless power capabilities into mobile phones, wearables, IoT, cars and furniture. During his keynote session, Dr. Singh will discuss the commercialization history of wireless power, starting from Nikola Tesla’s free energy proposal in the 1890s, to a future that promises wirelessly charged Teslas. Singh will follow up his keynote with a technical session presentation that proposes that parasitic eddy currents can be utilized to facilitate and possibly enhance the power transfer capability of systems that utilize Near Field Magnetic Coupling (NFMC) for wireless charging. Singh will share a proof of concept and a measurement and simulations-based study that was performed to understand the phenomenon and explain the contribution of eddy currents towards wireless energy transfer.

As CTO of NuCurrent, Dr. Singh guides the company’s technology focus, IP leadership efforts, and product development roadmap. Overall, Singh is an inventor on more than 65 patents (including 20 patents granted), and has twice been named a ITA CityLIGHTS Awards Technologist of the Year Finalist, which honors individuals whose innovation and success drive growth in the technology industry and in Illinois.

Singh received his PhD in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. While attending the university, he developed wireless telemetry systems for the world’s first Artificial Retina Implant, of which was recognized as a 2009 R&D 100 award winner.
