“Society has identified the problems with youth cellphone access, but is struggling to provide parents and guardians with manageable solutions,” says founder Alan Haskins

License2Cell, the emerging official resource for parents with adolescent cell phone users, publicly announces its venture. The mission of L2Cell is to facilitate empowerment of guardian authority over childhood cellular device usage. Coinciding with its submission into the MN Cup business startup competition, L2Cell released its “Phase 1” website (http://www.L2Cell.com) to the world on April 28, 2017.
This is a milestone achievement for those who have been seeking resources beyond the discussion. L2Cell believes providing cellphone and digital access for adolescents is one of society’s greatest social experiments. Almost every demographic is completely engaged in the experiment and is charting the course with no compass. There is data that confirms significant struggles, dangerous consequences, and predictable future challenges from unfettered access.
“Society has identified the problems with youth cellphone access, but is struggling to provide parents and guardians with manageable solutions,” says founder Alan Haskins. L2Cell was created to educate and provide real solutions for families. Members build customized usage contracts, find education and reviews, and join a collaborative environment providing workable solutions to this social experiment.
Haskins goes on to express, “that this is a major opportunity for our society to embrace a resource that is designed to galvanize a fragmented movement.” The goal is to maintain a free resource for every member of the global audience, regardless of demographics.
Timing of the website launch with the MN Cup competition (http://www.mncup.com) served as a deadline for “Phase 1” development. Entry into the competition could award $30,000 of seed capital to L2Cell if it were to win in its Impact Venture category. This would accelerate progress and help L2Cell achieve its mission.
“Our culture needs solutions and guidance with adolescents and digital technology. One of the most significant and indisputable facts around adolescents and cellphone usage is its addictive nature. It is now being compared to drugs, alcohol, and similar addictive behaviors.” Haskins goes on to say. Like many things that have taken generations to resolve, society, not legislation, will determine social norms and behaviors around cellphone usage. The question our global society must face, then, is crucial: Are we are equipped to address the challenges associated with adolescent cellphone use?
L2Cell and its subscribing members can influence this social condition by impacting the lives of children up to 18 years of age. Their primary focus is to reach parents and those responsible for young people. Thirst for solutions is evidenced by the global conversations happening to discuss this topic in digital and literal spaces, as well the psychosocial and cognitive development research that supports L2Cell’s main premise.
