Health-tech leader helps physicians connect patient and business information through the SocialCare platform

Health Symmetric, an emerging healthcare technology company based in Austin, today announced that it has hired healthcare and healthtech veteran Bob Teague, MD, as its Chief Medical Officer. Leveraging SocialCare™, the company’s secure open API platform, Dr. Teague will work with payers and providers to help them achieve the intended purpose of value based care - increased quality, lowered costs, and improved satisfaction.

Dr. Teague brings a career spanning clinical practice in Houston’s Texas Medical Center and leadership roles in technology to improve healthcare processes and outcomes through multiple entrepreneurial enterprises, major healthcare institutions, and Fortune 50 technology companies. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease, Dr. Teague’s prior roles include VP of Clinical Transformation and Physician Services at Quorum Health and Managing Principle for Dell Healthcare Consulting. Before that, he was Corporate Medical Director at Compaq Computer Corp for 18 years including internal, product and market facing roles. He is a veteran of three healthcare services startups as founder and served in C-level roles in three turn around engagements including experience in the public markets.

“I was motivated to join Health Symmetric because my own vision of using technology to achieve value-based care is aligned with the direction and the vision of the company. The SocialCare open API platform is the means for achieving this goal given the ability to draw from analytics that span both clinical and business aspects of medicine. Open APIs in healthcare were also recently confirmed by the federal government as a mandate for all certified vendors to force open exchange, essentially confirming the SocialCare vision and business plan from inception in 2012,” said Dr. Teague. “SocialCare’s focus on information interoperability, advanced analytics, and process automation supports both payers and providers. In essence, it’s not up to technology to do a doctor’s job. It’s up to technology to get distractions out of the way so that doctors can do their job.”

Earlier this year, SocialCare earned the latest certification for bidirectional interoperability from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). Referred to as the “2015 Edition Health IT Module,” the certification was conferred by The Drummond Group, an Authorized Certification Body that has been empowered to test software for compliance with the requirements of the federal government’s program. SocialCare is the first platform to earn this most recent certification for both system-to-system interoperability via open APIs and also person-to-person interoperability through direct, secure email messaging.

“We’ve long been excited about the capabilities our technology has for healthcare, and to now have Bob’s excitement and validation is huge,” said Danny Chu, Founder & CEO of Health Symmetric. “Bob will demonstrate to doctors how SocialCare, which adheres to the U.S. Government’s open API standard FHIR – or Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource, works with medical providers to seamlessly collect crucial patient and business data to improve interpretation and interoperability. His efforts will truly help us achieve our vision and propel us to the next stage as a company.”

Dr. Teague is the latest addition to the SocialCare team as the company has grown aggressively recently, hiring key executives, developers and other personnel, and is planning to more than double in size this year. Late in 2017, Health Symmetric plans to seek a third round of funding, expanding from its current strategic investor base to institutional investors to fuel its nationwide expansion.
