Trinity School of Medicine Receives Approval from the Medical Council of India
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) May 18, 2017 -- The Medical Council of India is the governing body for medical schools and their graduates’ access to the licensure process to practice medicine in India. Trinity’s recognition now provides the nation’s healthcare system another qualified, proven academic path to grow its available licensed physicians.
This latest approval of Trinity’s, after last year’s US Department of Education’s NCFMEA recognition of St. Vincent’s CAAM-HP accreditation, is another in a long list of testaments to the school’s quality and efficacy. It also aligns with one of Trinity’s stated goals, “To improve access to scientifically-based quality health care and enhance the health status of the residents of the communities served by our graduates.”
India has a severe shortage of physicians, and the nation’s goal is to achieve a ratio of 1:100,000 people. (For context, the United States’ current “in shortage” ratio is 2.41 physicians for every 1,000 people.) To practice back home after studying abroad, Indian students must obtain eligibility certification, which allows the student to take physician screening tests in India, an equivalent to the USMLE step exams. Trinity’s approval by the MCI allows Indian students to attend Trinity and return home, confidently sitting for that exam.
Trinity’s president, Steven S. Wilson, added, “Even with our focus on the US and Canada, we’re an international school with an international perspective. We’re dedicated to not just the success of our individual students, but in moving the needle on global healthcare however we can.” He continued, “This latest approval from the Medical Council of India is another great vote of confidence for us and our students, but more importantly, it’s another opportunity for Trinity and its graduates to elevate the quality and quantity of care around the world.”
