A new piece for Public Television will look into efforts to make driving safer.

A new segment of "Informed," a public television series hosted by award-winning actor Rob Lowe, will focus on the importance of automobile safety. The educational show will tackle the issues surrounding auto safety and offer tips to viewers for avoiding accidents and injuries while on the road.

More people die in automobile accidents in the United States each year than other developed countries, according to a 2016 report by CNN. While technological advances aim to improve vehicle safety and protect drivers and passengers from harm, the human element is still present behind the wheel of each and every car. It is the responsibility of all drivers to obey road laws, including speed limits, and ensure that all passengers wear their seatbelts to reduce the change of serious injury in case of an accident. In this segment of "Informed," Lowe explains various driving risks and the steps viewers can take to eliminate any distractions while driving. It applies to every person that sits in the driver's seat and will be particularly beneficial to families with children at or approaching driving age.

"Informed" is a series developed and produced for both Public Television. The team of researchers, writers, producers and videographers has received recognition for the educational segments they create that shed light on a number of industries and trending topics, which are hosted by Lowe. The show is independently distributed to Public Television PBS member stations around the country.
