Cancer diagnostics and pathology workflow solution provider Inspirata®, Inc. announced today that it is exhibiting in booth B2 at the Association for Pathology Informatics Annual Summit at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Downtown, in Pittsburgh, May 22-25.

In addition to demonstrating its Cancer Diagnostic Cockpit and Consultation Portal, Inspirata will present research it led to help extract and mine critical cancer case information from surgical pathology, cytopathology and molecular testing reports. These reports are primarily narrative free text, which means the information they contain cannot be accessed through case retrieval systems used in modern pathology informatics. The collaborative research study being presented describes the high accuracy of the Natural Language Processing (NLP) system that Inspirata is developing to provide a reliable way to identify and extract biomedically relevant information in cancer case reports.

“We’re very pleased to present the findings of this study demonstrating that Inspirata’s NLP system is able to facilitate rapid development of biomedical information retrieval resources with a high degree of accuracy,” says Inspirata Executive Vice President and Founder, Mark Lloyd, PhD. He led the study with collaborators from a range of academic medical centers, including the Ohio State University’s James Cancer Center, and the University of Michigan. Inspirata’s Senior Programmer and Informatics Analyst, Richard Long, also significantly contributed to the study.

“Our system is able to correctly match a high percentage of pathology concepts and words extracted from a wide variety of document source formats,” continues Lloyd. “This data can then be leveraged for linguistic manipulation, named-entity recognition, negation detection and classification.”

Several members of Inspirata’s Strategic Advisory Board (SAB) also are presenting at the Pathology Informatics Summit. This includes Inspirata’s Chief Strategy Officer and SAB Chair, Ulysses J.
