Smart Vent & ILC Dover Now Offering Free FEMA Floodplain Project Reviews
Pitman, NJ and Fredericka, DE (PRWEB) May 24, 2017 -- Smart Vent Products, Inc., a leader in wet and dry floodproofing solutions, and ILC Dover, makers of space suits for NASA, dry floodproofing solutions and other technologically advanced products, announced today they are offering FEMA floodplans design review as a complimentary service to all building and design professionals. With flooding becoming more frequent, and causing billions of dollars annually in damage, FEMA and the NFIP are constantly updating and enforcing stricter flood codes and regulations for homes and commercial buildings being built in flood zones.
To address this issue, ILC Dover and Smart Vent have created a Flood Plans Division. This division consists of a team of Certified Floodplain Managers and engineers who work together to design custom floodproofing solutions to meet specific project needs. These solutions are plotted on the design plans and include a Smart Vent® and or Flex-Wall® schedule, which is color coded to match the corresponding floodproof layout of the project. The Flood Plans Division offers a great service that combines aesthetics and code compliance with certified performance.
“Our Certified Floodplain Managers and engineers have the knowledge and experience to specify the appropriate floodproofing layout and solution, zone determinations, and conduct compliancy checks - assuring building and design professional their designs are flood resilient to protect the people inside, whether it’s a beach house or a new office building,” said Tom Little V.P. of Smart Vent Products, Inc.
The Floodplan Divisions at ILC Dover and Smart Vent can specify two types of floodproofing methods; wet floodproofing and dry floodproofing. Smart Vent Flood Vents are their line of wet floodproofing products, which are ICC-ES certified and FEMA accepted. These state-of-the-art flood vents stay closed until they come in contact with flood water. The water lifts the patented internal floats, which unlatch and allow the flood door to rotate open. This allows the flood water to automatically enter and exit through the frame opening, relieving the pressure from the foundation walls. And unlike competitors’ products, Smart Vent flood vents feature large unobstructed openings that allow flood debris to easily pass through instead of being trapped against screens or smaller openings.
Smart Vent’s line of dry flood proofing solutions incorporate ILC Dover’s revolutionary Flex-Wall, a state-of-the-art approach that utilizes a high strength flexible wall, which can be deployed rapidly for flood protection of buildings and equipment. It is constructed from high tensile strength Kevlar® with stainless steel hardware and can hold back up to 14-feet of rushing floodwater. The Flex-Wall can be configured to surround buildings or to cover doorways, storefront windows, and vehicular entrances. All flood protection components are stored at the point-of-use for maximum efficiency that is rapidly deployed and retracted before and after a flood event eliminating costly down time at the facility.
