Leading Nonprofits Good360 and Eight Days of Hope Join Forces in Disaster Recovery Efforts in Louisiana
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) May 24, 2017 -- Good360, global leader in product philanthropy and purposeful giving, has teamed up with nonprofit Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) to bring hope, relief and a sense of renewed possibility to hundreds of families in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, who are still displaced from homes that were damaged or destroyed in the record-setting floods of August 2016, more than nine months ago.
This will mark the 13th Eight Days of Hope mission, a concept originally borne out of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The goal is to bring 200-300 houses from their current state of damage and disrepair to a future state where families can return to their homes. EDOH recruits 2,000 – 3,000 volunteers from across the country to come to Lafayette for 8 days from June 4 through June 11 to rebuild these houses. In partnership with Good360, leading luxury home furnishings company RH will make a significant donation of the brand's products to help bring these homes to life, including beds, dining tables and seating, living room sofas and chairs, rugs, bed and bath linens, and other meaningful items.
“Thousands of families in the area are trying to figure out how they can rebuild their homes because of the mass damage,” said Stephen Tybor III, President of Eight Days of Hope. “Those who are waiting for assistance in the rebuilding process are looking for help and for hope. Eight Days of Hope’s goal is to bring a ray of hope to those who are in need and to help them rebuild their homes. We are excited to partner with Good360 to complement our mission. We can focus on the rebuilding and rely on Good360 and donors like RH for the furnishings.”
“We hear about major disasters as part of an ever-changing news cycle, so initial coverage is often complete and comprehensive, but as soon as the media leaves, the rest of the world tends to forget what these impacted communities are faced with,” said Howard Sherman, CEO of Good360. “There is a major gap in disaster recovery today where the long-term rebuilding of communities is often neglected, and we are proud to work with another purpose-driven organization that understands this and is working to reestablish this community’s long-term resiliency. The majority of giving happens within the first few weeks after a disaster, often leaving the long tail of recovery orphaned. A key goal of our partnership with Eight Days of Hope and benefactors like RH is to tackle this issue.”
This rebuilding project is focused on case-managed homes whose specific needs have been clearly identified and documented. The program is entirely cost-free for the families.
