Long Wait Time for Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits in Florida
Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) May 26, 2017 -- More than 76,000 Floridians are currently waiting for judicial hearings regarding their Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. With wait times of almost two years, Florida joins California and New York as states with the highest number of claimants caught in the backlog.
“Across the country, administrative judges are working through heavy caseloads in the Social Security disability appeals process,” said Tampa Bay Social Security disability attorney Antonio Viera, of Carlson, Meissner, Hart & Hayslett, P.A. “Unfortunately, many Americans struggle to endure the lengthy wait time, falling into poverty and deteriorating health in the interim.”
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), more than 2.3 million Americans applied for Social Security disability insurance benefits in 2016. Those whose claims have been denied can file an appeal, also known as a request for reconsideration. If the claim is denied on a reconsideration, the claimant can request a hearing before an administrative law judge.
“There are several stages in filing a claim for Social Security disability insurance,” continued attorney Viera. “Understanding the process, presenting your case in the best possible light, and utilizing legal strategies to expedite a case are essential in securing a favorable outcome.”
Social Security disability hearings are conducted by the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review in eight different offices in Florida, including Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, St. Petersburg, Tallahassee, and Tampa.
