angelMD Leads Syndicate Investment in Sports Helmet Technology
Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) May 26, 2017 -- Today, angelMD announced a syndicate of its members invested in Windpact, a sports equipment safety technology company. Recently, Windpact was announced as a winner at the National Football League’s second annual 1st and Future startup competition in the “Materials to Protect the Athlete” category and was awarded $50,000 from the NFL at the February event in Houston.
Windpack took a unique approach to solving the problem of player head safety. Its padding system is designed to retrofit existing helmets and other protective gear, and the technology is currently deployed in a variety of sports environments, with additional opportunities for military, automotive and manufacturing uses.
"Windpact's patented, independently-validated product is an important innovation in the concussion prevention space. The highly-customizable padding system lends itself to a multitude of uses, not only as an added feature in sports helmets, but across any sport or occupation relying on safety or protective helmets and protective gear. This is an important health category that needs a variety of approaches for a wide range of applications and price points," said Dan Parsley, angelMD’s senior vice president for corporate development.
The company is led by Shawn Springs, a former NFL Pro-Bowler with a passion for improving sports safety. During his thirteen seasons with the NFL, Springs played for the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins and New England Patriots and learned firsthand the importance of player safety.
Springs believes angelMD is an ideal partner for healthcare startups seeking educated investors.
“We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with together with angelMD on our bridge financing. In a matter of days, the angelMD team plugged us into a fast-track program, offering us the opportunity to present to multiple groups of highly qualified investors from their network. Through angelMD, we were able connect with terrific investors in the healthcare community and ultimately closed our bridge funding target within several weeks,” commented Springs.

About Windpact
The company has developed new technology that it is deploying in helmets and protective gear to help address the concussion and traumatic brain injury epidemic. Through extensive testing, helmets empowered with Windpact’s innovative technology, Crash Cloud™, have been shown to absorb and disperse impact energy far more effectively than the traditional absorption approach. Inspired by the science used to protect infants during car crashes, each Crash Cloud automatically adjusts to manage a wide range of impact rates, from soft bumps that only need minimal energy transfer to hard impacts requiring maximum energy transfer.
