Limestone Goes 12-0 on Shaw Sports Turf En Route to Fifth NCAA Title
Foxborough, Massachusetts (PRWEB) May 29, 2017 -- The Limestone Saints men’s lacrosse team won its fifth NCAA tournament title on Sunday against Merrimack, 11-9.
The Saints, which play all their home games on a Shaw Sports Turf Legion field, finished the season at 21-1, avenging their only loss which came at the hands of Merrimack back in April. Limestone was 12-0 on their home Shaw Sports Turf field.
Ryan Maciejewski had the hat trick for the Saints. The team’s other eight goals came from eight different players.
Limestone, the dominant program in NCAA Division II lacrosse, now boasts five NCAA Championships, with three of those coming the past four years. The Saints’ titles came in 2000, 2002, 2014, 2015, and 2017.
The Saints installed their Legion field in 2014 to enable them to get more programmable hours out of their playing surface. The wear and tear on the grass field was just too much. Adding the Shaw Sports Turf playing surface, along with lights, has allowed them to accommodate multiple sports.
The field plays host to the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, the men’s and women’s soccer teams, and field hockey. Limestone College offers one of the two southernmost field hockey programs among all three divisions of the NCAA. The field will also accommodates intramurals.
“We really like the height and mixture of the Legion system from Shaw Sports Turf,” said Jimmy Martin, Associate Athletic Director for Facilities. “The different characteristics provided by the slit and monofilament fibers help us with all the sports we play on the field.”
Legion is a combination of high-performance monofilament fibers and a durable slit film fiber. The slit film fiber is a workhorse which will handle the workload, while the monofilament provides a more resilient surface that enhances performance characteristics.
Limestone College was founded in 1845 as the first women’s college in South Carolina and one of the first in the country. The school became fully coeducational in the 1960’s. Today, the school has 1,000 traditional students and some 2,500 students at its extended campuses.
The athletic program at Limestone began in 1973. The Saints currently participate at the NCAA Division II level as a member of Conference Carolinas.
“The strength of this program is amazing,” said Andrew Barksdale, Territory Manager with Shaw Sports Turf. “Their success is unrivaled and we believe the performance characteristics provided by their Shaw Sports Turf field are unrivaled, as well. Go Saints!”
