District Adopts Naviance by Hobsons Software to Prepare Students for Life Beyond High School

Kingsport City Schools today announced significant strides in driving comprehensive college and career readiness initiatives. As one of the top-performing districts in the state, Kingsport has chosen Hobsons’ college and career readiness software, Naviance, to provide all students with access to the highest quality tools when planning for their future, and to enable counselors, educators, and parents to work together to ensure success.

Kingsport School District includes Dobyns-Bennett High School, one of the largest schools in the state with a student population of over 2,100, and two middle schools. To effectively meet the needs of the the entire student population, better support the counseling team, and increase efficiency district-wide, the district board has elected to remove the educational software used state-wide and has replaced it with Naviance under a five-year contract.

“We are excited to partner with Hobsons’ Naviance college and career readiness platform to help us continue to strive towards our mission of ensuring that all students are college and career ready,” said Dr. Brian Cinnamon, Chief Academic Officer at Kingsport City Schools. “We believe the alignment of Hobsons’ Naviance platform as a supportive solution to our efforts in establishing a culture of college and career readiness in Kingsport City Schools is essential.”

Counselors will use Naviance to scale their already successful college and career readiness program, as well as to improve student engagement and parental involvement for English Language Learners and students who are the first in their families to go to college. Students will use Naviance to manage their entire Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) process.

Another focus for Kingsport faculty is providing assistance to students earlier -- starting in middle school -- and identifying factors that may bar students from graduation or academic achievement. Now faculty can use Naviance to identify these risks, and respond with personalized, comprehensive learning plans for students.

“Our vision is to improve student outcomes by helping students connect their strengths and interests to long-term goals,” said Kate Cassino, CEO of Hobsons. “With Naviance, we’re eager to see how students in the Kingsport City School district realize their dreams.”
