Judge Stanley Sporkin Panelist at Foreign Corrupt Practices Act 40th Anniversary Forum
Boise, Idaho (PRWEB) September 22, 2017 -- The “U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act at 40 – Four Decades of Combatting Bribery Abroad” complimentary forum will be held on Monday, September 25 at Skaggs Hall, Boise State University College of Business and Economics, 4:30-6 p.m. MDT, and also available via live-stream. This significant milestone will feature remarks by Judge Stanley Sporkin, one of the driving forces behind the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), enacted in 1977. The sponsors include The Frank Church Institute, Boise State University College of Business and Economics, and Holland & Hart LLP.
In the mid-1970s, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations, which was chaired by Senator Frank Church of Idaho, played a leading role in investigating U.S. companies’ questionable payments to foreign government officials. The Church Subcommittee’s investigation helped lead President Jimmy Carter to sign the FCPA into law on December 19, 1977, making it unlawful for certain classes of individuals and companies to make payments to foreign government officials to assist in obtaining or retaining business. In recognition of the FCPA’s 40th anniversary, a distinguished panel comes together to discuss the events leading to the FCPA’s enactment, as well as the FCPA’s impact on global business over the past 40 years and beyond.
Live panelists include Washington, D.C. lawyer and an expert on white-collar financial crime and international tax evasion Jack Blum and Holland & Hart Partner Jason Prince who specializes in counseling and defending multinational and exporting businesses in FCPA and global anti-corruption compliance matters. Steven Feldstein, Frank and Bethine Church Chair of Public Affairs in the Boise State University School of Public Service, will be moderating the forum.
More information about the panelists and registration details can be viewed here.
