IT Industry Adds 14,400 Tech Jobs in August, Reports BLS
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) September 29, 2017 -- The US economy added 14,400 tech jobs in August, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, September 1, 2017.
“The IT industry added 14,400 jobs once again, the same number of jobs gained in July prior to revisions made in the latest BLS report,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “With these revisions, August’s job gains mark a 16 percent increase over the month previous, largely due to an increase in computer systems design.”
As of August, the IT industry employs 4,864,700 persons across four subsectors, including the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services subsector, and the management and technical consulting services subsector. Over the last 12 months, the industry has added 131,200 jobs, largely due to the computer systems design and management and technical consulting subsectors.
Computer systems and related services added 8,000 jobs in August, the fastest growing subsector within the IT industry. Since August 2016, the subsector has added 62,700 jobs.
The management and technical consulting services subsector added 3,100 jobs in August, after adding 6,000 in July. Over the last year, the subsector has added 69,200 jobs.
Computer electronic manufacturing added 3,900 jobs last month. The subsector added 400 jobs in July, but has lost 3,200 jobs over the last year.
The data processing and hosting sector lost 600 jobs after gaining almost as many in July. Over the last 12 months, the subsector has only added 2,500 jobs.
