AALL American Fasteners Successfully Partners with ManageAssist, Inc.

AALL AMERICAN Fasteners successfully partnered with ManageAssist, Inc., to elevate their staff’s organizational skills and, by so doing, improve services to their customers. The intensive year-long training program was funded by the Skills Partnership Training Grant.

AALL AMERICAN Fasteners, an inventory solutions provider offering a complete line of fasteners, tools, abrasives and industrial supplies, announced that they have completed a comprehensive training program, delivered by ManageAssist, Inc., a corporate training firm, in conjunction with Skill Partnerships Training Grant. The training program generated awareness and active participation of their employees in the key areas of Principles of Lean Logistics, Implementing Workplace Organization & 5S, Six Sigma Introduction, and Business Process Analysis & Improvement.

According to Mark Tenenbaum, AALL AMERICAN Vice President, “The most visible area of improvement is in our Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) services. Using Lean and 5S principles our team is able to reorganize a warehouse to minimize material handling, create space and streamline picking and packing processes. We now partner with our customers to understand their objectives and offer recommendations based on proven Lean and 5S principles.”

“One of our in-house 5S events addressed our VMI warehouse organization,” Mr. Tenenbaum continued. “Using learned principles, we restructured our layout and material handling. Material is now inventoried by frequency of use with the material used most close to staging and packing areas. Reorganizing the material allowed us to consolidate inventory and free up more than a dozen pallet shelves just in the first two isles tackled.

The change minimized material handling and improved efficiencies in our picking and packing processes.” Capitalizing on the success of their internal 5S event, the company proposed the same type of changes to a key customer. With the customer’s support and input, the account manager from AALL AMERICAN sorted material according to type and usage, cleaned out unused goods, provided new shelving and storage bins and standardized on inventory quantities. The customer now has a clean and organized materials area with visibility to inventory that is sustainable.

Mr. Tenenbaum added that “The hands-on training provided by ManageAssist and our team approach has empowered everyone. We look for ways to improve processes at all levels of our business from shipping and receiving, customer service and order entry to account management, accounting and personal work spaces. Our ability to carry these improvement methods through to our customers is an added value we provide that keeps us ahead of the competition.”

One employee stated, “The training gave me a different way to view how I manage my work from the simple daily tasks to full scale projects. Now when I tackle a project, I look for ways to increase efficiency, streamline processes and minimize the possibility for errors at every turn. With the hands-on practice used during training, I have the confidence to present recommendations to customers that I know will bring them the same benefits we recognize in our facility.”

When asked how AALL AMERICAN went about selecting a training company, Mr. Tenenbaum said “We looked for a firm that would come to our facility, provide relevant training material and assist with grant application processing. ManageAssist was excellent in meeting every need”.

“The ManageAssist training program includes classroom style and hands on training in our own facility”, Mr. Tenenbaum explained. “During the classroom style training, the instructor presented lessons, provided real-world examples and facilitated exercises that demonstrated the key principles of the lesson. The entire group took the lessons and applied the principles to our own facility and processes in real time. Now when we work with our customers, we are working from hands-on-experience with practices proven in our own facilities”.

Assignments given for the time intervals between training sessions were fully completed and articulately presented during the class time. This facilitated a fuller and more comprehensive approach to the training subject matter.
