Amerisure Insurance has assisted the human service agency Vista Maria receive a $500,000 grant from FHLBank Indianapolis. The grant will be used to add another housing facility to Vista Maria’s campus. This grant was one of the nearly $9.6 million in Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grants FHLBank Indianapolis issued this year.

This is the third time Amerisure has teamed with the Dearborn Heights-based organization in its quest for grants from FHLBank Indianapolis. In total, Vista Maria has received $1.75 million in AHP grants from the bank. A 2012 grant helped build its 22-unit Shepherd Hall Studio Apartments for young women aging out of foster care and those who are homeless and in need of stable, supportive and transitional housing. A second grant in 2015 helped Vista Maria build DeRoy Hall, which provides 16 units for homeless female victims of human trafficking.

The latest $500,000 AHP grant from FHLBank Indianapolis will go towards doubling capacity for homeless human trafficking victims. The prevalence of the crime has grown nationwide, causing housing at organizations like Vista Maria to reach a critical level of overflow. The new building will be a stabilization unit that will include housing, a medical facility with an exam room and a quieting area for intake.

“The AHP grant from FHLBank Indianapolis was made possible by the great work of our dedicated staff and the longstanding partnership with our generous sponsor, Amerisure,” said Vista Maria President and CEO Angela Aufdemberge. “We are now one step closer to our $4 million goal of building new state-of-the-art stabilization treatment housing for the rescued victims of human trafficking. We look forward to the expansion to accommodate the many young girls who need our services.”

“We’re humbled and proud to be able to help Vista Maria secure several AHP grants over the years,” stated Amerisure Chief Administrative Officer Angela McBride. “The quality of the good work they do is incredible and makes a true difference in the community. Amerisure has been a loyal Vista Maria supporter since 2005 and we look forward to continuing this meaningful relationship.”
