CEO of Fit4D, David Weingard, Announced as Finalist for the Lyfebulb-Novo Nordisk Innovation Summit and Award
New York, New York (PRWEB) October 12, 2017 -- David Weingard, Founder & CEO of Fit4D, has been announced as one of the top 12 finalists for the Lyfebulb-Novo Nordisk Innovation Summit and Award.
The Summit and Award spotlights outstanding Patient Entrepreneurs’ innovative efforts and ideas to better manage diabetes via consumer products, medical devices, or healthcare information technology. Due to his growing impact as a patient-innovator in the diabetes space, this is the second time in a row that David has been selected for the honor.
The finalists have been selected from close to 100 applications representing 25 countries around the world, by Lyfebulb founders and senior device researchers from Novo Nordisk.
David, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, has been selected for his entrepreneurship of creating and building Fit4D, a company that has enriched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people with diabetes. Fit4D is a New York City-based diabetes management company that partners with pharmaceutical and health plan companies to provide patients with one-on-one personalized support from a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Fit4D leverages technology to scale the reach of CDEs, so that greater numbers of patients can have access. A CDE is a clinician, typically a registered dietitian, nurse or pharmacist with advanced diabetes training and certifications.
Fit4D’s diabetes coaching solution educates patients on how to navigate the complicated diabetes journey, motivates them to make behavior changes, and empowers them to self-manage the disease. Diabetes is a job no one wants and the human touch of a CDE has resulted in measurable health outcomes, especially medication adherence and lowering of HbA1C.
As a finalist, David will attend the Lyfebulb-Novo Nordisk Innovation Summit November 6-8, 2017 hosted by Novo Nordisk A/S in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Summit provides a unique opportunity for visibility and recognition in this highly competitive arena. The winner, as well as the second and third place runners-up, will be chosen by an international judging panel, on November 8, 2017.
“We are thrilled to team up with Novo Nordisk a second year in a row for the 2017 Lyfebulb-Novo Nordisk Innovation Summit and Award, and were impressed by the applications we received from all over the world yet again this year. It was definitely tough to narrow down the large number of quality applications to just twelve, but we are certain that this group of finalists will make this year’s event as successful, or an even greater success than last year’s Summit,” says Dr. Karin Hehenberger, CEO and Founder of Lyfebulb. “Patient entrepreneurs are individuals who have utilized their diagnosis, or that of someone close to the innovator, a relative or loved one, as motivation to form businesses aimed at improving the quality of life of those living with a chronic illness, and are an essential part of the future for people living with chronic disease.”
David’s life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 36. An e-business executive at Microsoft, David’s life of work, competing in triathlons, and being a Dad transformed into one wrought with confusion and fear over the dire consequences that come with a diabetes diagnosis. He was overwhelmed and needed support. Only after meeting Cecilia, a CDE, did David realize that he could live an empowered life with diabetes. Cecilia taught him about diabetes and, most importantly, gave him hope. On a mission to connect other patients with the life-saving support of a CDE, David left Microsoft and founded Fit4D.
Senior Vice President for Novo Nordisk Device R&D Kenneth Strømdahl stated, “Digital technologies and patient entrepreneurs are fast-tracking towards a transformed future in the device space. I can´t wait to meet the twelve finalists and share perspective on what rallies all of us around a common goal: dreaming of a better future for patients with diabetes.”
“I am honored to be selected as a finalist for the second year” said David Weingard, founder and CEO of Fit4D. “As a person living with diabetes, I feel passionate about providing others with the one-on-one support that I’ve benefited from throughout my own journey. I’m so appreciative for the Lyfebulb-Novo Nordisk Innovation Award because it creates a space where we patient innovators can take our personal experiences with disease and create practical and often life-changing solutions for other patients.”
