Rob Lowe Hosts a "Success Files" Segment Highlighting the Importance & Benefits of Apiculture
(PRWEB) November 02, 2017 -- On an upcoming episode of “Success Files”, narrated by Rob Lowe, the award-winning actor, will take us on a tour explaining the importance and the benefits of apiculture. Apiculture or beekeeping involves more than collecting honey. Bees also pollinate crops, provide beeswax, and the pollen from bees is used in many natural remedies.
Each year, tens of billions of dollars of crops in the United States are pollinated by bees. Bees play an important part in the production of many staples, including apples, almonds, cantaloupe, cucumbers and other foods that we eat every day. Bees have been a viable part of economies for thousands of years. People have collected honey not only as a food source but also for medicinal purposes. Honey offers sugars, vitamins, and minerals that are all easily absorbed by the body. Medically, the uses of honey range from antiseptics and sedatives to laxatives.
Over the last few decades, the bee population around the world has been declining. What has caused this decline of nearly 1/3 of the bee population over the past decade, and what are scientists doing to reverse the tide? Can apiculture help rebuild the bee population?
“Success Files”, as narrated by Rob Lowe has been nominated for and received several awards for excellence in programming. “Success Files” can be seen on different PBS Member Stations around the United States.
