Rothman Institute once again sponsoring the 8K race, which will take place on Saturday, November 18.

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Philadelphia Marathon has announced that Rothman Institute has agreed to continue its sponsorship of the 8K race.

The Rothman Institute has been part of the Philadelphia Marathon for over 19 years, dating back to when Drs. Richard Rothman and Peter Sharkey began sponsoring the 8K as part of their community outreach efforts. The 8K has been a “peoples” race – giving anyone who wants to run the opportunity to do so. It also serves as a warm-up race for runners competing in Sunday’s AACR Philadelphia Marathon.

The Rothman Institute 8K (4.97 miles) is a fantastic way to take part in the race weekend excitement. The race is longer and more challenging than a 5K, but not as intense as the 13.1-mile Half Marathon. Runners on the Rothman 8K course will start off on the expansive Benjamin Franklin Parkway, just below the steps of the Art Museum of Philadelphia and looking out upon City Hall, before taking a turn on the scenic banks of the Schuylkill River and Kelly Drive.

Earlier, the AACR was named as the Marathon title partner, an arrangement that is in place for the next three years. Similarly, local brand Dietz & Watson has agreed to be the official sponsor of the Half Marathon. The partnerships serve to benefit both the City and its sponsors.

“We are thrilled to have sponsors for all of our individual events,” said Marathon Executive Director Leo Dignam. “Having this support gives us the opportunity to make a great weekend even better.”

Registration is ongoing and runs through November 10, 2017. Those interested can go to https://philadelphiamarathon.com/register to sign up.
