Kickstarter Campaign Launches for High-Tech Air Filtration Mask and Sensor
SEATTLE (PRWEB) November 07, 2017 -- Today, KOOLMASK launched a Kickstarter campaign for HEXA, a high-tech, comprehensive air-filtration mask that acts as an air quality monitor, purifier, and tracker in one.
It protects against pollutants, allergens and bacteria by drawing in contaminated air and returning clear air to the user. The mask is available for the early bird price of $99 (retail: $159).
Air pollution is a global, and growing epidemic. Stats from the WHO show that 80% of people who live in urban areas worldwide are exposed to air pollution that exceeds safe limits. Health impacts can be serious for people with allergies, weak immune systems, or respiratory illnesses, as well as for commuters and athletes.
KOOLMASK CEO and co-founder Edward Song knows firsthand the need to fight pollution. “My son Luke has asthma and when we were in Asia, he needed to wear a face mask to play outside,” said Song. “But most masks are ineffective, or heat and moisture build-up make them unbearable after ten minutes of use. Luke and I decided to invent something better.”
Hexa is equipped with twin turbo fans that draw in contaminated air, remove pollutants, and return up to 150 liters of clean air per minute. The fans are low temperature, low noise, and adjustable to low or high speed air flow, depending on what the environment calls for. The mask is run by an exterior 5200 mAh power bank that can operate for up to eight hours, depending on fan speed.
It is more than an air-filtration mask. It comes equipped with a built in air quality sensor that detects airborne particle densities. The monitor can be used independently of the mask and measures PM 2.5 and 10. Data is sent to the accompanying AirSense App that alerts the user to the level of pollution in their immediate vicinity via an easy to read, color categorized display. The data can be shared with friends and family, or on the KOOLMASK global air quality network. The result is ultra localized data that can be used to create mappable, crowd-sourced information on air pollution.
The mask stays dry and cool by using a tri-layer, high efficiency exhale valve that minimizes heat, moisture, and CO2 build up, as it increases exhale sensitivity and volume. Its face seal is made of medical grade silicone that seals seamlessly to the face, preventing leaks and blocking out bad air. HEXA has a modular, honeycomb design that is sleek and easy to assemble and clean. It comes in an assortment of colors.
“We’re excited to bring the best of air filtration and monitoring technology to the general public with Hexa,” said co-founder and president George Bazos. “Other masks are low tech, no tech, or aren’t powerful or comfortable. Our unique patented features and design make our mask the ultimate clean air system.”
Hexa by KOOLMASK's campaign will run from November 7, 2017 to December 18, 2017, with an estimated delivery date of September 2018. For more information on the pledge levels, visit the Kickstarter page.
