CBCF Brings Diversity To The Forefront In #GivingTuesday Campaign
WASHINGTON (PRWEB) November 13, 2017 -- The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) kicks off its participation in the #GivingTuesday movement to place more African-Americans on Capitol Hill. #GivingTuesday, a global day that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy, inspires individuals to donate to charities and organizations. On November 28, 2017, the day of giving, the CBCF will officially begin its end-of-year giving campaign focused on increasing diversity on Capitol Hill.
This year’s theme, “Go ALL In” (#GoALLin), is a clarion call that highlights the critical need for programs like the CBCF’s Leadership Institute to bring talented African Americans to Capitol Hill. Interns and fellows participating in the Leadership Institute will gain first-hand leadership experience by working with members of Congress and their staff. The CBCF’s goal is to create a steady pipeline of talent to help increase the representation of African American leaders in public service careers and public policy positions.
“Giving Tuesday helps us fulfill our vision of cultivating young leaders and ensuring African Americans continue to have a substantial voice on Capitol Hill,” said A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO, CBCF. “Our ability to fund the pipeline to leadership depends on the support of our community as a whole. The donations the CBCF receive on Giving Tuesday push us a step closer to fulfilling our goal of a more inclusive Congress.”
Last year, the CBCF’s #GivingTuesday campaign brought in nearly $35,000, substantially exceeding the initial goal of $15,000. This year, the funds raised will support the CBCF’s Emerge 535 program, an initiative to place an African American intern from the CBCF Leadership Institute in all 535 congressional offices on Capitol Hill. The CBCF has set an aggressive goal of raising $53,500 by the end of the 2017 calendar year.
