Together, the organizations are hosting an event entitled, “Sourcing Untapped Talent and Closing the Opportunity Divide” to support the city of Philadelphia’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the workforce.

Through this event, major employers in the Philadelphia region will learn about the benefits of supporting untapped talent in the workforce. Specifically, Year Up will offer insights into its innovative approach to talent development, as well as how the organization assists employers in sourcing young talent through internships and trained hires. The event will include four keynote speakers, including Joseph Coyle, Executive Director of Year Up Greater Philadelphia, Kenyatta Johnson, Councilman for the 2nd District of Philadelphia, Harold T. Epps, Director of Commerce for the City of Philadelphia, and Prema Katari Gupta, Senior Vice President, Navy Yard Planning & Real Estate Development at PIDC.

“Year Up is closing the opportunity divide through an innovative approach to talent acquisition for major employers in the greater Philadelphia region,” said Joseph Coyle, Executive Director, Year Up Greater Philadelphia. “This event highlights the Year Up model and benefits for young adults, employers and the city. We appreciate PIDC, the Department of Commerce and the Office of Councilman Johnson for their belief in our mission. Together, we have a more positive impact on the workforce and communities within our city.”

“Diversity and inclusion in the workforce not only affects the citizens of my district, but the citizens of Philadelphia, the state and the nation. We are proactively supporting professionals of all backgrounds with access to success,” said Kenyatta Johnson, Councilman, 2nd District of Philadelphia.

“We are committed to growth, opportunity and development in Philadelphia,” said Commerce Director Harold T. Epps, Director of Commerce for the City of Philadelphia. “Organizations such as Year Up and PIDC serve as important allies in this work, helping us fulfill our commitment to our city’s residents and businesses.”

“PIDC is thrilled to be working with Year Up, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, and the Commerce Department to help companies at the Navy Yard and throughout Philadelphia fill job openings with a trained and diverse talent pipeline,” said Prema Katari Gupta, Senior Vice President, Navy Yard Planning & Real Estate Development at PIDC.
