CARMEL, Ind. (PRWEB) November 27, 2017
The city of Carmel, Ind., has hired Woolpert to implement its Cityworks Asset Management System (AMS) for its Engineering and Streets departments, continuing an organic, in-house approach to managing and maintaining assets throughout the northern Indianapolis suburb.
Previously, Woolpert implemented this software for Carmel’s Water and Sanitary Sewer divisions within the Carmel Utilities department. Jeff Pesler, Woolpert project manager, said the success of those initial projects has led to the system’s broadened application.
“Like a lot of local governments, Carmel can be pretty siloed,” Pesler said. “But they have top-level support from City Council and leadership in general not only for the implementations, but for how to effectively use the system. This support allows them to streamline processes across departments and to benefit the city as a whole.”
Woolpert has conducted more Cityworks AMS implementations than any other firm, closing in on 400, and has more than a dozen staff members—including Pesler—who are internationally certified by The Institute for Asset Management (IAM). Two of these certified staff members also have earned advanced IAM degrees.
Pesler said that Carmel has stood out among Woolpert’s AMS clients for its integrated and innovative outlook.
“The city was well-prepared for this implementation and understood the building blocks of an asset management system,” he said. “They had a pretty mature asset repository and a GIS (geographic information system) that was ready to engage, moving on from the partially paper-based system. It also helped that their field staff was accustomed to using mobile technology, giving them easy access this basic communication functionality.”
The AMS implementations for Carmel’s Engineering and Streets departments are expected to go live in the first quarter of 2018.
