RSC’s most recent update to Rev-Trac 7 Introduces more granular configuration, analysis of HANA Objects for even more control over SAP Change

Automation and enforcement of SAP change control processes are increasing in importance year over year

Revelation Software Concepts Pty Ltd (RSC), a pioneer and market leader in automating SAP change control, and celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, today announced the release of SPS03, a significant enhancement to version 7 of their flagship SAP change control automation platform, Rev-Trac. Recent survey results reveal that over 62% of Rev-Trac customers achieve their Agile/DevOps initiative through the use of Rev-Trac’s workflow automation, making Rev-Trac a cornerstone to managing SAP changes and improving the delivery of DevOps. Version 7.3 introduces new features to Rev-Trac to deliver controls for more effective, and safer, accelerated development and delivery that DevOps and Agile promise along with important enhancements to process enforcement and usability.

“Automation and enforcement of SAP change control processes are increasing in importance year over year,” observes Rick Porter, RSC Vice President of Business Development. “Two key features in Rev-Trac, OOPS/ OOPS+ and cross project locking continue to be pivotal among our users, particularly in managing multiple agile development streams; and SPS03 delivers a significantly deeper level of control our global customers have requested.”

With the advent of SAP HANA and more complex landscapes, for example, it has become important that CTS+ non-ABAP objects (packages) be considered even if in unreleased transports. Rev-Trac’s popular overtake and overwrite prevention mechanism, OOPS+, now includes unreleased transports and enables more granular examination analysis of the HANA objects for overtake and overwrite reporting.

Further control is delivered through an updated design to Rev-Trac 7’s Enhanced Rev-Trac enforcement screen which includes a new cross project lock button. Now Rev-Trac can intercept ABAP changes taking place within a SAP development system and require an ABAP developer to associate their changes to a valid Rev-Trac Request to enforce best practice processes.

Also new in SPS03 is a configuration area in the Parallel Development Workbench called System Group Cross Project Locking. This delivers more control over the Rev-Trac locking process by allowing Rev-Trac users to set the Rev-Trac locking behavior between active Rev-Trac Projects whose ABAP changes belong to the same System group. In the RSC tradition of simplifying SAP Change Control, this feature replaces many lines of code with a system group and project association.

A “Redirect” Option, added in the workbench allows an authorized Rev-Trac user and parallel development manager to “approve” or “reject” a request for a parallel development by an SAP developer. This change represents a third option in which a request for parallel development can be redirected to an alternate Rev-Trac Request – another new feature that results in a higher level of parallel development quality control.

Finally, The Inflight parallel check report (formerly Parallel development report by object) report has been significantly enhanced to enable a customer to search by ABAP Object, by one or more transports, or by a specific Rev-Trac Request. This new search criteria allows Rev-Trac users that are members of the release management team to gain a much deeper understanding of the parallel development that’s underway when there are multiple projects in the same development system. This added visibly aids teams in managing multiple agile development where parallel developments are not only likely, but necessary.
