Cybersecurity Provider Bricata Adds New CFO and VP of Engineering
Columbia, MD (PRWEB) November 29, 2017 -- Bricata, Inc., a developer of next-generation network intrusion detection and prevention solutions (IDS/P), announced today it has added a chief financial officer (CFO) and a new vice president of engineering to its management team. Phil Salopek joins Bricata as CFO while Orville Pike joins as vice president of Engineering. The announcement comes as the company seeks to grow to meet the demand for its network security product.
“It’s no secret that the cybersecurity community is facing a talent shortage, which affects solution providers as well as enterprises,” said Bricata CEO John Trauth. “Our continued ability to attract top-tier leadership talent is further validation of the company’s potential and of the dire security problem we solve for our customers.”
Salopek is a familiar face in the high-tech and cybersecurity community. Over his extensive career, he has served as an operationally-focused CFO at a number of businesses, both publicly-traded and privately-held, including Notable Solutions, BroadSoft and AXENT Technologies.
As CFO of AXENT, Salopek was the financial steward during its $1 billion acquisition by Symantec at the height of the dot-com era. At that time, he worked closely with John Becker, who has earned a reputation for successfully leading multiple cybersecurity companies, including Sourcefire, and who today serves on the Bricata board of directors.
Pike joins Bricata from KoolSpan, where he spent the better part of a decade and rose through the ranks to become VP of Engineering. As the top engineer at his previous company, he built and led a software team developing secure VoIP and messaging applications. Pike brings a unique combination of industry expertise, technical abilities and the software skills necessary to drive the continuing development of the Bricata solution.
While the standalone network security intrusion detection and prevention market is large and longstanding, many of the existing products are outdated or have been subsumed into corporate firewall products. Yet the pace of major data breaches persists, even as the vectors of attack grow, and the width of vulnerable surface area expands. This is making a renewed focus on network security an essential component of a layered cybersecurity defense.
Bricata has brought fresh thinking and new innovation through a modern solution that detects, hunts and prevents cyber threats. The Bricata software platform examines threats with three different detection engines including signature inspection, anomaly detection, and a malware conviction engine.
Today’s news continues a series of announcements over the course of 2017 that counts opening an office in Boston, raising an $8 million round of growth funding, the previous addition of veteran security executives to its leadership team, and a software update with new threat hunting and detection capabilities. The company has been named a security startup to watch by SDxCentral, GoBankingRates and a major technology analyst firm.
“Bricata has a product installed and defending some of the largest and most sophisticated organizations in the world,” added Trauth. “The talent and experience Phil and Orville bring promise that Bricata will have the capacity and scale to provide network security in many more.”
