Pop-Up Experience in Westport Encourages you to “Believe in Your #Selfie” with a Hands-on Art Experience
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (PRWEB) January 08, 2018 -- Believe in Your #Selfie is a pop-up experience located at Snow & Company on 421 Westport Road. The immersive art playground will run through Jan. 14, 2018. All ages are welcome.
The idea came from founder, Alex Altamore, while he was visiting the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. He said, “At the Nelson, I always see people taking selfies next to Duane Hanson’s iconic Museum Guard or with the shuttlecocks. Everybody is naturally attracted towards art that is physically engaging and provides a context for self-expression and sharing.”
He then challenged local artists to create a collection of spaces and experiences towards this goal of interactive art and happiness. Students from The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) helped ideate and build the immersive structure.
One of the artists, Salacia Selene said, “It’s been incredible to see how the Westport business owners like Snow & Co. and Donut Lounge, the community, the Kansas City Art Institute, and so many others have really embraced and supported our vision. They made it possible for us to bring something entirely new to Kansas City.”
Some of the local artists Involved are:
Molly Balloons
Salacia Selene
Andrew Leider
Maggie Nottberg
Erick Felix
Quentin Laurent
Dia Saunders
The concept is similar to interactive exhibits like “The Beach” at the National Building Museum or the City Museum in St. Louis. There will be interactive creations including a balloon aquarium and a giant balloon igloo developed by Molly’s Balloons , a donut wall created by The Doughnut Lounge and a hands-on Kansas City experience.
