ASDS to Present Stylists Against Skin Cancer Program at 2018 International Salon and Spa Expo
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (PRWEB) January 15, 2018 -- The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the largest specialty organization representing dermatologic surgeons, will present its Stylists Against Skin Cancer Program at the Professional Beauty Association’s 2018 International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE) on January 27-29 in Long Beach, California. The 2018 ISSE will showcase its largest line-up of class options in the show’s 19-year history.
Ramona Behshad, MD, will lead interactive sessions that:
-Teach the warning signs of the most common scalp skin cancers.
-Demonstrate basic ways to look for scalp skin cancer.
-Discuss when and how to refer clients to a dermatologist.
-Educate stylists on how to approach clients about skin abnormalities in a way that promotes positive attitudes towards visiting the doctor with any concerns.
-Discuss effective preventive measures for skin cancers, including patient education resources.
“Most hair care professionals do not receive skin cancer education while in cosmetology school,” said Dr. Behshad. “By detecting growths suspicious for skin cancer and making appropriate referrals to dermatologists early, hair professionals can help to prevent the progression of dangerous skin cancers. With this training, stylists will be able to provide their clients with valuable information that they can then share with a dermatologist and potentially save a life.”
The sessions will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center on:
-Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2:45 p.m.
-Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2:45 p.m.
-Monday, Jan. 29 at 9:30 a.m.
