A recent “US News and World Report” study ranked Software Developer as the Number 1 Best Job in their 2018 Best Jobs study, but supply continues to be low. “Businesses are facing a universal shortage of IT talent,” says John Bemis, president and founder of Benchmark IT. “On average, Benchmark places more than 120 IT professionals in local tech jobs annually with demand steadily increasing.” In 2017, Benchmark IT’s team doubled its staff as the requirements to support local businesses grew two-fold. Placements range from senior level CTO and CIO executives to software developers, project managers and business analysts. “Tech unemployment is currently at 1.3%--- an all-time low,” said Bemis. “Technology drives the local and national economy and the need for new and enhanced technology skills changes rapidly. Right now, the most in-demand skills we seek are software developers, agile project managers, and cyber security and cloud computing engineers, to name a few. Looking ahead, in- demand skill sets will include Blockchain developers, Machine Learning Engineers and IoT specialists.”

Benchmark IT was the only Connecticut technology staffing firm to lobby on behalf of employees working on and seeking H-1B Visas here. “There are 100,000’s of guest workers in the US,” said Bemis “We don’t have enough qualified American workers right now or in the near future to fill their jobs. The potential risk of limiting H1-B visa workers means more outsourcing, which means job loss here in the US.” Many workers are currently working on H-1B Visas but live in and contribute to the community.
