uBiome, the Leader in Microbial Genomics, Launches SmartGut and SmartJane Microbiome Test Kits in Canada
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) January 26, 2018 -- uBiome, the leader in microbial genomics, announced today that Canadian residents can now request uBiome clinical testing from healthcare providers. These tests include SmartGut™, the world’s first sequencing-based clinical microbiome test, and SmartJane™, the world’s first women’s health test to genotype all clinically relevant strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) in addition to screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and imbalances in vaginal flora.

SmartGut and SmartJane are medical tests that allow patients to easily test their gut and vaginal microbiomes, respectively, in the privacy and comfort of home. Samples are returned to and processed in uBiome’s CLIA-licensed and CAP-accredited laboratory in San Francisco, California, using a patented process called precision sequencing™.
The results outline the beneficial and pathogenic microorganisms associated with specific infections and common conditions related to the sampled microbiome. For SmartGut, this includes gut symptoms like bloating, constipation, diarrhea and other symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s Disease, whether a diagnosis has been made or not. For SmartJane, this includes both high- and low-risk strains of HPV, common STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and mycoplasma genitalium and changes in bacterial populations, like lactobacillus, which can be responsible for pelvic inflammatory disease and bacterial vaginosis, among others.
Results are made available to both the patient and requesting healthcare provider via uBIome’s secure patient portal to help foster important discussions about treatment and wellness, but they are not intended to diagnose conditions such as cancer and do not replace the need for other clinical tests, including the Pap smear for women.
