Independent Community Pharmacy Innovator Promotes Health Care For Under-served Populations Through Expansion of Pharmacist eCare Plan Capabilities

The eCare Plan Initiative, created through a partnership between Community Care of North Carolina and the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network in collaboration with an elite group of innovative health care tech companies, allows for more effective patient care by leveraging the patient-pharmacist relationship. Independent pharmacies often anchor care in underserved communities: Community Care of North Carolina’s research shows that Medicaid patients interact with their pharmacist 10 times more than with their primary care physicians. The eCare plans allow for pharmacies to be paid for the services and patient support that they render — much of which allows for better coordinated health care for individuals.
The multi-tiered certification structure allows for a phase-based introduction of pharmacist eCare plans into the market. BestRx is the first pharmacy management system to receive Level 3 – active medications capability. Level 3 certification permits pharmacies using BestRx pharmacy management software to communicate with other health care providers so that payers (Medicaid, Medicare, insurance plans, etc.) can validate and pay for services rendered by pharmacies. The Level 3 data capture includes services such as adherence packaging, the collection of vitals such as weight, blood pressure and pulse, immunizations and immunization tracking.
