KANEOHE, Hawaii (PRWEB) February 07, 2018 -- PlayCore awards its first National Demonstration Site™ Award in Hawaii to the Pa Honua Super Playground for excellence in promoting physical activity and fitness through active play.
PlayCore, the leading company in play and recreation research, programming, and products, recently awarded its PlayOn! Promoting Physical Activity National Demonstration Site Award to a brand new PlayOn! Youth Fitness Playground on Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH.) Pa Honua Super Playground is the first National Demonstration Site ever in Hawaii. The Super Playground is a destination playground provided by Hunt Military Communities for neighborhoods on base. It is the biggest playground in Hunt’s portfolio at about 5,000 square feet with over 20 play components and an inclusive design. The grand opening for this amazing playground will be held on March 23, 2018 in the Pa Honua Neighborhood on MCBH.
The play space replaces old playgrounds that were in the community, which made room for a more playable and larger playground on the base. The new playground is part of Hunt’s Public Private Partnership Construction Increment Phase 6, which also included the construction of 260 homes.
The purpose of this new playground is to bring the community together, for residents to enjoy a more exciting space to play. “We get feedback from residents to increase physical activity for children through our playgrounds and have designed this playground to provide purpose through play. We hope that it will bring the military community together through outdoor fitness that is fun, exciting, and appealing,” says Jess Brown, Project Coordinator.
PlayCore is proud to partner with physical activity experts SHAPE America to provide a valid solution to creating healthy bodies through active play. The site features a variety of six key elements of play to promote physical activity: balancing, brachiating/bilateral upper body activities, climbing, sliding, and spinning. The site encourages movement such as running, chasing, exploring, and active play all while providing a developmental progression of skills for beginning, intermediate, and advanced level users.
The unique program can become a vital component in efforts to strengthen, educate, and build healthier communities through play, while maximizing the potential of the playground. The site will receive certification, become a part of a national registry, and is promoted actively to other communities wishing to offer appropriate promotion of physical activity to help share best practices.
