Helene Meisner Oelerich’s New Book “Memories of a Jewish Girl from Brooklyn” Tells of a Woman’s Fulfilling Memories that She has Built up Over the Years
WHITESTONE, N.Y. (PRWEB) March 23, 2018 -- Helene Meisner Oelerich, a writer, teacher, photographer, reviewer of restaurants, traveler, and reader, has completed her new book “Memories of a Jewish Girl from Brooklyn”: an endearing account describing the author’s personal relationships and circumstances that defined her for everything that she is.
Author Oelerich depicts a well-lived life filled with meaningful moments in the company of people that bring warmth and sunshine: “Sometimes, on Sundays we would go to visit my paternal grandparents, so different from my Mom’s parents who were down-to-earth immigrants from Russia, warm and loving. My dad’s parents were strict and formal and ran a large wallpaper and paint business in Brooklyn called Meisner’s Wallpaper & Paint. Grandma would sit at the dining room table reading the New York Times. She was self-taught and ran the family business. They lived in a two-family house. I remember the large dining room and the wooden table on which was found a shiny, black-lacquered dish that held white pistachio nuts. I went straight to remove the cover of that special treat as soon as I gave the obligatory kiss to Grandma. In an alcove was an old gramophone. It had a hornlike protrusion from which music floated out into the room. There was a picture of a dog and written on the funnel were the words: ‘His Majesty’s Voice RCA Victor.’”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Helene Meisner Oelerich’s fascinating tale lets readers revisit poignant and nostalgic scenes through the author’s point-of-view.
