Accelerated Innovations (AI) was in attendance in support of Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and Focus on Energy (FOE), who were recently honored with the Inspiring Efficiency through Innovation Award at the 2018 Midwest Energy Solutions Conference hosted by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA). The honor was awarded as a result of the On Demand Savings Program, which was powered and driven by MyMeter®, AI’s flagship customer engagement platform.
The Inspiring Efficiency Award was presented to MGE and FOE at MEEA’s annual Midwest Energy Solutions (MES) Conference in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, February 8, 2018. MEEA is an organization comprised of influential and forward-thinking energy professionals across thirteen Midwestern states, whose collaboration is aimed at advancing partnerships, dialogue, and research surrounding sustainability and energy efficiency. At their annual MES conferences, MEEA invites members and guests to network, reinforce the importance of energy efficiency, and celebrate various accomplishments through their Inspiring Efficiency Awards.
The Awards recognize Midwest leaders who deliver groundbreaking advancements in energy efficiency in five categories: Leadership, Education, Impact, Marketing, and lastly Innovation; for which the ODS program was recognized. The Inspiring Efficiency through Innovation Award recognizes development and implementation of a new and innovative program or policy, whose impact is unique to the Midwest region.
The ODS Program earned the Innovation award for several reasons, one of which is significant energy and demand savings realized by commercial customers. Following the conclusion of the pilot program in December 2016, analyses performed showed that on average, customers realized a 9% demand (kW) reduction during summer on peak periods. The evaluation study also found an average consumption (kWh) savings of around 4.5%. Another reason is its unique tools: ODS provides its participants with AI’s MyMeter® energy dashboard, programmed to operate with their energy management systems (EMS), all at no cost to the customer.
The ODS program and MyMeter® facilitated MGE customer, Middleton School District, to realize nearly $20,000 per month savings at Kromrey Middle School in Middleton, Wisconsin, as seen in and explained by Bill Eberhardt, Facilities Services Director for the school, in a recent testimonial video. Enrolling in the ODS program and gaining access to utilize the MyMeter® dashboard to monitor energy usage (down to 15 minute intervals), enabled the school to make energy savings decisions more quickly, minimizing waste and leading to more impactful changes.

In ODS’s Round 2 Interview Findings survey, prepared by Cadmus, and in particular reference to customer experience, 100% of survey participants rated their overall MyMeter® experience (on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being Extremely Satisfied) at 7 or above. And in terms of moving the needle of customer understanding, the survey showed that over 90% of interviewed participants have a better understanding of demand impacts, and an impressive 100% have a better understanding of strategies to reduce peak demand.
