SRO Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center Gains ‘Best of 2018’ Recognition
Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) March 27, 2018 -- The March issue of the North Bay Bohemian is devoted to highlighting the best of Sonoma and Napa counties, and the results of this year’s campaign are just out. Selections included a ‘Best of 2018’ mention for Santa Rosa Orthopaedics (SRO) in the category of “Rehabilitation Center” for Sonoma County.
“SRO’s PT and OT programs make up the bulk of the rehabilitation center. The Threefold Therapy Model
Occupational therapists often treat injuries, but their main focus is on improving life skills and incorporating adaptive tools customized by the therapist. Therapy treatments may include manual therapy, exercise, postural and ergonomic education, and modalities such as ultrasound, electric stimulation, paraffin, moist heat, and ice. Typical goals include increasing flexibility and strength, improving gait and balance, and decreasing pain in an effort to return our patients to full function.
Physical therapists are focused on evaluating and diagnosing movement dysfunctions and providing treatment to injuries. The PT staff works to diagnose and treat the physical source of the problem focusing on the injured tissues and structures. Both physical and occupational therapists are trained extensively in anatomy and the musculoskeletal system and are very knowledgeable about musculoskeletal injuries and rehabilitation.
The third branch of physical therapy is hand therapy. Hand therapists begin their careers as occupational or physical therapists and continue to pursue advanced study and experience, and they specialize in treating patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremity. Some may also have advanced certification as a certified hand therapist (CHT), as do all three hand therapists who work for Santa Rosa Orthopaedics.
As certified hand therapists, they have the expertise to provide many non-operative interventions, employ preventative care strategies and support post-surgical rehabilitation. SRO’s CHTs routinely cover a wide variety of upper extremity disorders, everything from minor finger injuries to total joint replacements. Patients with chronic conditions including arthritis or neurologic conditions such as a stroke also benefit significantly from hand therapy.
SRO’s physical therapy staff includes Pat Hall PT, Chris Krug, MSPT, Tom Sather, PH.D., PT and Michael Serrano, PTA. Occupational and hand therapists are Jennifer Henshaw-Lefever, OTR/L, CHT, PA, Bruce Kolman, OTR/L, CHT and Cynthia Syiek MA, ORT/L, CHT.
