Zero liquid discharge is the pinnacle of water treatment technology [...]. This is an investment in the future.

Saltworks Technologies has been selected to build and deliver two full-scale zero liquid discharge (ZLD) water treatment systems for a Northern Canadian mine. The water treatment systems will be used to treat mine water to recover freshwater and produce solid salts.
A year-long pilot project was conducted and demonstrated that the SaltMaker Evaporator Crystallizer could treat the challenging mine water, meet strict discharge regulations in the Arctic, and the client’s goals for solid salt production. The produced salts can be reused at the mine to de-ice mining shafts.
The first of two SaltMaker plants is currently being built in Saltworks’ production facility in Richmond, BC. The modular plant will be rapidly delivered as ISO shipping container blocks early this summer. The design of the plant facilitates future expansion to increase processing capacity, if required.
The energy efficient evaporator crystallizer system can use on-site waste heat to drive its operations towards zero liquid discharge. In addition, its lower operating temperatures and non-corroding composite construction allow safe and reliable operation.
“We are thrilled to be a part of providing water management solutions to mining operations. Zero liquid discharge is the pinnacle of water treatment technology – our products are engineered to reliably deliver this to our clients. This is an investment in the future,” said Saltworks CEO, Ben Sparrow.
