"Because of supporters like GovX, we’ve given out close to 60,000 grants since 2004 and have never turned down an eligible child." - Angela Burton, Executive Director (Our Military Kids)

GovX, the online shopping site exclusively for current and former military and first responders, selected the nonprofit Our Military Kids as the newest recipient of the Mission Giveback donation program. Each month, GovX chooses a new, service-related foundation performing work in the military, first responder, or law enforcement communities and donates a portion of proceeds from orders placed during the given month. Our Military Kids will receive a donation based on orders placed during the month of April, which coincides with the month's designation as "Month of the Military Child".
Inspired by the words of a military officer deployed to Iraq who said, "Please don't send cookies, care packages, or socks. Just help take care of our children," Our Military Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the K-12 children of our nation's servicemembers. The nonprofit primarily assists the families of deployed National Guard and Reserve service members and the children of wounded warriors from every branch. The nonprofit issues grants up to $500 which help pay for activities that help children cope with the stress and anxiety many experience while their parents are deployed, or recovering from injuries.
"My father served for 34 years and I saw first-hand the challenges that children face when parents are deployed," said Alan Cole, GovX CEO. "Our Military Kids addresses such an important need in this community and we’re so proud to help them support the families who sacrifice so much to serve our country."
Angela Burton, Executive Director of Our Military Kids, said the support from GovX will help kids during an extremely challenging time in their lives. “Being able to take dance lessons or join a baseball team empowers these kids and gives them an outlet for the stress that comes with a deployed or injured parent,” said Burton. “Because of supporters like GovX, we’ve given out close to 60,000 grants since 2004 and have never turned down an eligible child.”
Activities which OMK grants pay for include athletic, fine arts, and tutoring programs. The nonprofit has sponsored children's after-school recreational activities like martial arts lessons, music classes, golf, volleyball, dance classes, and more. OMK grants also help military families with academic needs, paying for reading, writing, math, and study skills so children maintain academic performance through all K-12 grade levels.
