ST. JOSEPH, Miss. (PRWEB) April 10, 2018 -- Pier 33 Marina of St. Joseph, Michigan will host a public boating course presented by the United States Power Squadron’s local unit, the South Bend Sail & Power Squadron, beginning Saturday April 21.
Boaters, including personal watercraft operators, hunters or fishermen operating an outboard utility boat, canoe and kayak paddlers, skippers of a family cruiser, and sailing enthusiasts must follow the same nautical rules, regulations and courtesies of the sea.
Attendees will learn the basics of boating safety. This newly revised comprehensive course includes lessons on seamanship, boat handling, boat types, rules of the road, navigation aids, regulations, adverse conditions, marine VHF radio, knots, trailering and optional introductory piloting.
Organized in 1914, United States Power Squadron is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Members are boaters and boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. The Power Squadron has nearly 40,000 members organized into over 400 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions.
Pier 33 annually makes its facility available for this spring class. “We believe in supporting safe boating education, for beginners and advanced boaters as well,” said Pier 33 General Manager Tighe Curran “and we always appreciate the efforts of the South Bend Sail and Power Squadron to conduct these classes for Pier 33 boaters and boaters from around our area.”
Interested boaters can obtain complete information on-line at Pier 33's website and can also register on-line for the course. Classes will be held Saturday April 21 and Saturday April 28 at Pier 33, with the final course wrap up and exam on Saturday May 12. Class will run from 9 am to 1 pm on each date.
