Background:
Deepwater Deception, by Robert Kaluza and Maryann Karinch, will be released on the eighth anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy. The incident resulted in the deaths of eleven (11) rig workers and caused untold environmental damage to the Gulf of Mexico. The tragedy that occurred on April 20, 2010 was blamed on two BP well site leaders, Kaluza and Don Vidrine. (Mr. Vidrine passed away last year.) Both were scapegoated in the BP-DOJ plea deal.
A DOJ requirement of companies in securing cooperation credits is that people deemed accountable for the criminal act be named by the company seeking leniency. BP chose to name Bob Kaluza and Don Vidrine. All manslaughter charges against Kaluza were dropped prior to his February 2016 trial and he was declared innocent of the charge of violating the Clean Water Act by a jury in under two hours.
The book will premiere at the National Press Club, Zenger Room, at two, one-hour media events held the afternoon of April 20, 2018. The first event from 12:30-1:45 will focus on the real reason why Deepwater Horizon had a catastrophic blowout. The second event from 3:00-4:15 will explore the false statements embedded in the BP-DOJ plea agreement that led to the indictment of Kaluza on manslaughter charges. To attend one or both events at the National Press Club, please RSVP to mak(at)rudyagency(dot)com.
