Gordon Bostic, who wrote to express himself while working as a computer scientist and software engineer for most of his life, has completed his third new book “She Came to Me a Stranger”: a provocative and unpretentious collection of poems that seek to express the hidden drama in everyday life.
Author Bostic uses poetry as a medium to help him ponder and process the world around him, and in that searching he sheds light on the human condition—as he does in his poem “Lost to Our Technology”:
“We’re lost in our technology
So we don’t understand
How to hold a conversation
Or touch another’s hand.
We’ve become so isolated
Living within our phones
That we’re lost to relationships
As something we’ve not known.
We reside in a cyber world
With answers on demand
But we’ve lost our ability
Our real lives to command.
We’re strangers to reality
For we won’t change our way
And step outside the cyber world
To see the light of day.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Gordon Bostic’s new book offers a clear-eyed view of the hopes, dreams, failings, and struggles of the milling crowd, with a storyteller’s wonder of the secret worlds of strangers that in miniature reflect the struggles of the narrator—and the reader.
Readers who wish to experience this insightful work can purchase “She Came to Me a Stranger” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
