“My Last Last Name Is Grace”: a dignified memoir-novel of a woman’s journey to grace. “My Last Last Name Is Grace” is the creation of published author Beaty Miller, a retired nursing homes geriatrics professional who lives in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she volunteers at retirement community programs, engages in creative writing classes and Bible study groups, creates speaking platforms, and is actively involved in North Rock Hill Church with her husband, Mike.
Miller writes of her background growing up in a Mennonite community: “My birth was needed to secure a fourth player for my frequent card-playing family. At any given point, including Daddy as one of the four players, either one or two card tables of four were now filled. With no television, playing cards was our entertainment, and we loved a good competition. Following behind five brothers and one sister, I was child number seven born into a Mennonite family of Anabaptist roots to Aaron and Elizabeth (Fisher) Martin. Anabaptist is a Protestant sect that arose in the sixteenth century advocating for the baptism and church membership of adult believers only, nonresistance, and the separation of church and state.”
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Beaty Miller’s new book is a remarkable attempt to distill the wisdom learnt over the years of storms, both figurative and literal, that lay a soul to waste, if not for the redemptive promise of grace.
Miller’s multilayered book masterfully weaves together the early family episodes and the struggles of her later life that ultimately gave birth to the strong woman who emerges in grace at the end.
