GovX Announces Paralyzed Veterans of America as May’s Recipient of Mission Giveback Donation Program
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) May 01, 2018 -- GovX, the online shopping site exclusively for current and former military and first responders, once again selected Paralyzed Veterans of America as this month's recipient of the Mission Giveback donation program. Each month, GovX selects a new service-related nonprofit performing work in the military, first responder, or law enforcement communities and donates a portion of proceeds from all orders placed during the given month.
The nonprofit's mission is to support and provide for the members of the US Armed Forces who live with service-related spinal cord injuries or dysfunction. It is a Congressionally charted veterans service organization, founded in 1946 by a service-disabled veteran of World War II.
With more than 42,000 American veterans living with spinal cord-related paralysis, PVA seeks to create a nation where the most severely injured heroes receive the physical care they need to live a healthy life; receive the benefits they’ve earned through military service; and obtain job training and opportunities for new and fulfilling careers.
PVA operates Paving Access for Veterans Employment (PAVE), an initiative that provides vocational counseling and job placement to any veteran, active-duty service member, spouse, or caregiver across the country. It is a free program that helps applicants identify career opportunities that fit their skills, education, and individual goals, and also puts them in touch with prospective employers. They provide education on fundamental job-seeking touchpoints, such as resume development, interview skills, networking efforts, and more. PAVE has offices in VA medical centers around the country, and places an average of 350 applicants in jobs every year.
Paralyzed Veterans of America also extends its reach into other aspects of veterans' lives. They employ a government relations team to advocate for quality health care, accessibility and governmental benefits on behalf of veterans who have rightfully earned them. They are the only veterans organization to employ on-staff architects who design and develop building codes and standards for the entire nation that cater to the needs of disabled people. Finally, PVA runs year-round adaptive sporting opportunities that enrich the quality of life for veterans who live with paralysis and disabilities.
"We were proud to donate to PVA last May, and we'll be even prouder to do it again this year," said Alan Cole, GovX CEO. "Paralyzed Veterans of America offers so much support—in so many ways—to the men and women who've served our country, and their commitment to these veterans is truly inspiring. It's an honor to once again support their ongoing mission."
