I look forward to this contest each year because improving outdoor living spaces continues to be one of the most popular priorities for homeowners. The projects we have planned to transform the Arnetts’ backyard can easily translate to anyone.

Expert home improvement guru and national media personality Danny Lipford is taking his Emmy-nominated television show, “Today’s Homeowner,” on the road to Kentucky. He won’t be donning his finest threads for the races; rather, Lipford and his co-host and daughter, Chelsea Lipford Wolf, will sport their tool belts to rescue Lexington couple, Walt and Beth Arnett, from their boring, broken-down backyard.
The Arnetts are the lucky winners of the annual “Backyard Paradise” contest sponsored by “Today’s Homeowner” and Pavestone. Walt and Beth have been following the show for several years and have especially enjoyed episodes featuring past “Backyard Paradise” winners. This year, they decided to throw their hat into the ring for the contest. The couple put some personality into their entry with a custom video.
Upon receiving a personal call from Lipford, who delivered the good news about the contest, Walt said, “We loudly celebrated with some hooting and hollering, and jumping up and down, which very much confused and excited our dog. Beth immediately called her mom, who is arguably Danny Lipford’s number one fan. We went out to dinner to celebrate, and have been dreaming about our backyard paradise ever since!”
The “Today’s Homeowner” team will arrive at the Arnetts’ to begin their backyard makeover May 21.
“My team and I look forward to this contest each year because improving outdoor living spaces continues to be one of the most popular priorities for homeowners,” says Lipford. “The projects we have planned to transform the Arnetts’ backyard can easily translate to any homeowner wanting to create an outdoor area for cooking, entertaining, relaxing or even all three!”
Thousands of contestants submitted photos of their current backyards along with wish lists in hopes of winning the opportunity to have Lipford and his crew transform their outdoor space from “blah” to “beautiful.” In addition to Lipford’s expertise, the grand prize package includes a variety of pavers, retaining blocks and project kits from Pavestone and is valued at $10,000. Some of the specific projects that Danny and the team will tackle include:
- Creating a patio with Rumblestone
- Building a Pavestone Fireplace
- Creating wall seating
- Adding new landscaping
The “Today’s Homeowner” episode featuring the Arnett family and their “Backyard Paradise” improvements is set to air nationwide the week of June 18, 2018 to an audience of nearly 2 million viewers.
