Mimerse, a leading VR therapy company based in Stockholm, has raised $730K in seed funding to develop their platform, a VR pharmacy for mental health, initially focusing on phobias, pain, and stress. The round was led by Almi Invest, a venture capital firm owned by the Swedish government, alongside several Swedish angel investors, the company announced today.
Rikard Steiber, President of Viveport and SVP Virtual Reality at HTC, is an investor and advisor to the company. “Mimerse’s combination of clinical partnerships, scientific research, and brilliant technology has the potential to revolutionize treatment of mental illness on a massive scale. I’m happy to get involved at this early stage, the things the team are working on are truly game-changing,” he said.
Mimerse’s platform will initially be used by healthcare providers in Sweden but will also be available as a self-help application directly to consumers.
“Virtual reality creates completely revolutionary possibilities for treatment of mental illnesses, one of humanity’s largest burdens. After four years of experiments, research, and development we are more convinced of its potential than ever. This is a step closer to helping millions of people who receive inadequate or no treatment today," said William Hamilton, co-founder of Mimerse.
Founded in 2014, Mimerse builds evidence-based treatments using immersive technologies. Mimerse is working with leading universities and hospitals and is the first company to clinically validate an automatic VR treatment for a specific phobia. For more information, visit http://www.mimerse.com.
