“New Homes Roar In March”
While March weather was rough throughout much of the U.S., new home sales surged up 4 percent. Much of the gain was in the western U.S. where sales were up over 28 percent. New home sales for the first three months of 2018 are up 10.3 percent from 2017 to a median price of $337,200.

Bernie Madoff's former Hamptons beach house is for sale at $21 million. Madoff bought the Montauk home in 1980 but lost it in 2009 when the U.S. bankruptcy court seized it. In addition to the 3,000-square-foot home and 180 feet of beachfront, much of the home's value is due to its location on the sand which is no longer permitted for new construction. The new owners paid $9.4 million for the home in 2009, added a pool and renovated much of the home.

With her children now grown and careers of their own, Kathie Lee Gifford is selling the Key Largo, Florida waterfront vacation home she bought in 1998 with husband Frank Gifford. Kathie Lee often talked about her home's sunset views on the 'Today' show, also where the home was the location for a remote broadcast she did in 2013. The home is priced at $10.5 million.
“Celebrities Leaving Central Park”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, celebrities such as Bruce Willis and Sting are leaving their New York Central Park area homes while newcomers including Jennifer Lawrence, Harry Styles and Justin Timberlake have purchased in Tribeca and Chelsea instead of the park area. Reasons for the exodus include newer and more luxurious developments in other parts of the city.

According to a report from GoBankingRates.com, the best place in the United States for retirees is Timber Pines, Florida. Located about an hour from Tampa and St Petersburg and two hours from Orlando, Timber Pines was established in 1982 to provide country club amenities for active adults. The #2 place is Green Valley, Arizona followed by Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Criteria include median home prices, cost of living and property taxes.
“Springsteen Drummer On Real Estate Roll”
Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band members are famous for their New Jersey roots but Bruce and several of his band members also have homes in Florida. His drummer and former 'Conan O'Brien' band leader, Max Weinberg, has bought and sold several Palm Beach condos and homes including the recent sale of his five-bedroom home in Palm Beach for $6.79 million. Rod Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi and Jimmy Buffett are other rockers with homes in Palm Beach. Bruce owns a home in Wellington, Florida just a few miles west of Palm Beach.
“Lil' Kim Losing Big House”
Rapper Kimberly Jones, aka Lil' Kim, is apparently losing her 6,026-square-foot New Jersey home on two acres to foreclosure. Kim bought the luxury home in 2002 for $2.3 million but has fallen on hard times. She stopped making payments years ago and has been in mediation with the bank since 2015. A judge recently ruled that she is in default so the home is going to auction with a minimum bid of $100.
“Chicago Tribune Tower Going Condo”
The famous Chicago Tribune and adjacent WGN Radio buildings on Michigan Avenue will be converted to a mix of condos, hotel, apartments and retail development including a new skyscraper next door to the Tribune building that will be over 1,400 feet tall. It will be the second tallest building in Chicago behind Willis Tower (the former Sears Building). The newspaper is moving a few blocks south to Prudential Plaza.
“Michelle Pfeiffer's San Francisco Compound”
Michelle Pfeiffer and spouse, David E. Kelley, are trying to sell two homes and a barn on 8.7 acres in the San Francisco area. Selling as one property, the Woodside neighborhood main home with four bedrooms dates back to 1940 while the six-stall barn was built in 1925. The property also includes three guest apartments, tennis court and orchard. The asking price is $29.5 million.
“Pompano Beach Named #1 Florida Beach Vacation”
Pompano Beach was recently named the #1 Florida beach vacation town by MONEY Magazine. Ratings were based on beach town amenities, attractions and prices. The magazine cites Pompano Beach's coral reefs, sports fishing, scuba diving and kid-friendly beachfront. Prices for Pompano Beach condos, hotels and restaurants are bargains compared to nearby Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.
