Allegheny Health Network’s Autoimmunity Institute and AARDA Join Kyle Marcelli and 3GT Racing for Mid-Ohio Race to Help Raise Awareness about Autoimmune Disorders
PITTSBURGH (PRWEB) May 03, 2018 -- The livery of the 3GT Racing No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3, driven by Kyle Marcelli, will be adorned in new sponsorship logos representing the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Autoimmunity Institute and the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association, Inc. (AARDA) for the third race of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship series at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, May 4-6, 2018.
The AHN Autoimmunity Institute, the first of its kind in the world, provides comprehensive care to patients suffering from a wide range of autoimmune diseases. Based at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, the AHN Autoimmunity Institute combines multispecialty care with cutting-edge research, patient education and advocacy to advance the treatment of autoimmune diseases and accelerate discovery of cures.
“With this unique venture, we are taking an innovative approach to helping raise awareness about autoimmune diseases and the resources that are available to those who suffer from them,” said Joseph Ahearn, MD, Chair, AHN Autoimmunity Institute.
Susan Manzi, MD, MPH, Chair of the AHN Medicine Institute and Director of the Lupus Center of Excellence within the Autoimmunity Institute adds, “We were pleased to learn of Kyle’s success as an ambassador for AARDA and his ability to reach the public and generate awareness about the need for autoimmune disease care and research. We are delighted to be on board with Kyle and his team, and greatly appreciate AARDA and the Race for RP (relapsing polychondritis) program for providing the opportunity to do so.”
“There are over a hundred autoimmune diseases, impacting approximately 50 million Americans,” said Virginia T. Ladd, President and Executive Director of AARDA. “While trying to get a diagnosis, patients can often be seen by multiple doctors and specialists over the course of several years before being correctly diagnosed and starting treatment. Then comes the battle of fighting a chronic illness, and the costs associated with adequate care. This is unacceptable.”
“The AHN Autoimmunity Institute is a major step forward towards achieving our goal of having medical providers bringing a coordinated approach for the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases,” she said.
Kyle Marcelli, driver of the No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 for the Michigan-based 3GT Racing team, said he’s delighted to have the AHN Autoimmunity Institute as a new sponsor.
“It’s a real honor to represent and promote the good work of Dr. Susan Manzi, Dr. Joseph Ahearn, and their outstanding team,” said Marcelli. “I have worked closely with AARDA for a couple of years, and it is impressive to see how much progress is being made through their efforts. The AHN Autoimmunity Institute’s approach is unprecedented as it provides patients with access to doctors, researchers, and support staff from different specialties who work toward a common goal – to offer compassionate care and eventually find a cure for autoimmune diseases. It is a fantastic, much needed approach and it is our goal to promote and drive awareness to these efforts through our motorsports program."
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series makes its debut at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Sunday, May 6 at 1 p.m. ET on FS2. Watch Kyle Marcelli and co-driver Dominik Baumann pilot the 3GT Racing Allegheny Health Network No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 to battle on the historic circuit for the third race of the season.
