Madison School of Healthcare at Ashworth College Congratulates 2018 RN-BSN Scholarship Recipients
NORCROSS, Ga. (PRWEB) May 21, 2018 -- The Madison School of Healthcare at Ashworth College congratulates Rebekah Rutledge and Wendy Smith, recipients of scholarships to the online healthcare college’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) program.
Rutledge serves as minimum data set coordinator at Lee Health and Rehab Center, the Pennington, Va., location of multi-unit long-term care provider Commonwealth Care of Roanoke. She was awarded a $5,000 scholarship.
“I shared the news with Rebekah in person while I was visiting [Commonwealth Care of Roanoke] to host a lunch-and-learn and meet the staff,” said Robyn Porterfield, healthcare partnership manager for Madison School of Healthcare. “It was quite moving. She was not able to afford our program without assistance and the scholarship has enabled her to pursue her BSN degree.”
Smith has a decade-long tenure as a public health nurse and currently works for Granville Vance Public Health in Henderson, North Carolina. She was awarded a full-tuition scholarship
“In her scholarship application, Wendy mentioned that she was afraid she was too close to retirement age to return to school,” said Porterfield. “But, as we know from experience, RNs of all ages and experience levels complete their BSN degrees through our program. It’s really designed for people with career and family commitments just like her. Wendy wants to learn more and offer better service to her community. We’re honored to help her do that with this scholarship.”
Established in 2017, the RN-BSN Scholarship Program awards two scholarships annually–one to an incoming student and one to an established student. Eligibility is based on grade point average, essay submissions, and recommendations in addition to the educational and licensing requirements of the RN-BSN program itself. This is the first year the awards have been made.
