A new segment looks into marine life and associated professional fields.

Rob Lowe, the award-winning actor, and host of the “On Demand” series will host a new episode discussing Marine Biology. This segment will focus on life in the oceans and other marine environments.

The scientific study of marine life is referred to as marine biology. It classifies living things based on the environment rather than taxonomy. Plant and animal life forms are included from the microscopic organisms to the blue whale which is the largest marine creature. Marine Biology is broad and includes many disciplines that include but not limited to cellular biology, deep-sea ecology, marine mammalogy and much more.

We live in a fascinating world. Marine biology helps to understand the planet we live in. Much has been discovered but it’s just a small percentage of what there is to find. Advances in technology have helped in the exploration of ocean waters.

Those that have studied marine biology can work in federal and state agencies, private consulting firms or research laboratories not to mention working for zoos, museums, aquariums or become members in academia. They have societies and professional organizations like The Society of Marine Biology which help promote professional networking, development and information exchange.

Biological Oceanography and Marine Biology are related. While a biological oceanographer studies marine species in the context of Oceanography, a marine biologist studies the biology of the species. Viewers can join Rob as he hosts this program that will offer insight on Marine Biology.

The authenticity and quality of production of the “On Demand” have made it a favorite show to many.
