Horizon Goodwill Receives Grant From United Way NSV For $10,000
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (PRWEB) May 23, 2018 -- Horizon Goodwill Industries is pleased to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from the United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley. These funds will support the Get Onboard! Job Readiness Program.
"We're committed to creating meaningful change in the Northern Shenandoah Valley," said United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley Board Chair, Susan Brooks. "One way we drive change is by investing in meaningful and needed programs like Get Onboard Job Readiness Program at Horizon Goodwill. It is through these kinds of programs that we create deep impact for our community members that need a hand up toward financial independence."
The Get Onboard! Job Readiness Program is a two-week course offering participants a framework for the essential skills required to be successful both in their personal and professional lives. Classes focus on concepts of emotional intelligence, conflict negotiation, and social skills in addition to employability skills including a financial and digital literacy curriculum.
Catharine Fleming, Chief Mission Officer for Horizon Goodwill, says, "Getting a job is a lot of hard work, but keeping a job in today's economy can be even harder. Now, with United Way NSV's help, Horizon Goodwill's Get Onboard! Job Readiness Program will introduce 75 participants to the world of work and teach them the critical employability skills that will help them get AND keep their next job."
United Way NSV awards annual grants through a competitive application and Fund Distribution review process that is entirely by community volunteers. This year volunteers reviewed funding applications, undertook site visits and recommended grant funding to focus on priority human care needs as defined by United Way's Community Needs Assessment.
