Weston Dental Specialists Group provides more options to save natural teeth and save ailing dental implants

Alaa Alwazzan, DDS, DMD, FACP, MSc and Mario Gatti, DMD, CAGS, FACP of Weston Dental Specialists Group are now certified to offer the LANAP and LAPIP protocols. As prosthodontists, both doctors are specialists in the dynamics of your smile with extensive education in the most advanced techniques for restoring and replacing teeth.

Dr. Alwazzan and Dr. Gatti continue to be on the leading edge of patient care, offering a minimally invasive laser treatment to save natural teeth and rescue compromised dental implants.

"Many patients come to us hoping to improve the appearance and comfort of their smiles. What they soon realize is not only does your smile have a tremendous impact on your physiological health; the state of your oral health impacts your total health," said Dr. Alwazzan. "While some patients may be reluctant to undergo traditional osseous surgery, the LANAP treatment gives us the opportunity to give them excellent results without the need for cutting and suturing.

“We want our patients to be informed about problems and alternatives for replacing teeth, because informed patients make better decisions about their health and well being," continues Dr. Alwazzan.

"Similarly, patients are eager to save their dental implant investment if it becomes diseased," added Dr. Gatti. "The LAPIP treatment allows us to help patients save their implants and even reverse some of the bone loss they may have experienced due to peri-implantitis."

Gum disease, also called periodontal disease or periodontitis, is the leading cause of tooth loss. LANAP treatment uses the specific wavelength of the PerioLase MVP-7 dental laser to target and destroy the bacteria and endotoxins causing gum disease, all while leaving healthy tissue intact. With a quicker recovery time and less pain post-operation, patients prefer LANAP treatment over traditional surgery. By eradicating the disease, Drs. Alwazzan and Gatti create a stable foundation for restorative treatments. Just as you wouldn’t build a house on quicksand, it’s important to make sure your mouth is healthy before restoring or replacing teeth.

Dental implants are a popular solution for missing teeth, with many benefits. Occasionally, dental implants may become compromised and bone loss might occur. The LAPIP protocol is a first line treatment approach for failing implants or peri-implantitis as it addresses the underlying causes affecting the health of both the bone and the implant, gum disease.
