The Beverly Hills based plastic surgeon comments on a recent article that K. Michelle’s decision to remove silicone buttock implants highlights one of several reasons why many doctors and patients prefer fat transfer as the primary method of buttock augmentation.

He explains that, because buttock implants are subject to a great deal of pressure and compression (due to sitting), they are not as reliable and long-lasting as breast implants.

A May 18 article in Ebony highlights a video recently posted by Instagram star and singer K. Michelle, in which she explains her decision to have her buttock implants removed in order to opt for a silicone-free solution. The primary motivator for her decision was the discovery that the silicone had begun to leak from the implants, causing pain in her legs. After having the first of several surgeries to the complete the process, she shared in her latest video that she is “happy and getting healthier everyday.”

Beverly Hills based plastic surgeon Payam Jarrah-Nejad, M.D., F.I.C.S., F.A.C.S., better known to his patients as Dr. J, notes that the lack of foreign objects in the body is one of the reasons why the Natural Butt Lift®, which enhances the size and shape of the buttocks through liposuction and fat transfer, is preferred to placing implants. He explains that, because buttock implants are subject to a great deal of pressure and compression (due to sitting), they are not as reliable and long-lasting as breast implants.

In addition to the safety factor, buttock augmentation by way of fat transfer can also deliver more satisfying cosmetic results, Dr. J adds. He explains that fat is much more maneuverable and shapeable when crafting the result, whereas silicone implants come in pre-filled sizes which might not be the perfect fit for every patient.
